Wensco Welcomes Gerber

Wensco welcomed Gerber on Wednesday, December 11th, to their Grand Rapids headquarters to get the lowdown on the latest Gerber products. Wensco recently began selling Gerber products and the training day allowed Wensco’s staff to learn more about the products and continue to grow in their ability to guide questions and inquires that come their way. Corey and Rob, from Gerber, provided an amazing day for the Wensco team. The Wensco team learned about the materials and capabilities from Corey, while Rob schooled everyone on how to run Gerber printers and plotters.
Material Talk in Conference Room 1
The first team to learn with Corey got to hear a more in-depth look at who Gerber is, what they aim to provide, and what their products should be to the consumer. The ability for Gerber to print white so clearly, and make the tiniest font crisp and clear was something that stands Gerber out from anything else on the market. The abilities of Gerber’s printer often go underutilized, Corey mentioned. There are many people that don’t know or remember what they can do with the Gerber Edge FX machine which include but are not limited to:

• Printing vivid white
• Printing white on clear
• Printing double sided window decals
• Printing minuscule font crystal clear
• Printing on glow in the dark vinyl
• Printing on static cling clear vinyl (with solid white!)

The Gerber’s printing abilities weren’t the only thing that caught our eye. Gerber also provided a full booklet of colors that people often covet for color matching, and various information packets about materials, like LexEdge FR65 and reflective, and hardware. Gerber also covered various substrates that could be an asset to any sign shop and presented unique answers for sign creation issues. The Wensco team came out of the conference room armed with the abundant knowledge of Gerber solutions.

Hands-On Printer and Plotter Training
Rob took over the training and showed the capabilities of Gerber’s software and machines. He showed how easy the software can be, as well as the tools, to learn and troubleshoot. After laying out a print and trim path, Rob helped demonstrate Gerber’s printer. The Gerber Edge FX was featured and had a lot to offer, from the easy foil loading system to the foil reading system that let you know just how much foil you had left. After the team got a look inside the machine, volunteers were asked to get “hands-on” and load the paper to print the job they created in the software. Once loaded properly in Gerber’s unique pins, Rob guided them through the menu and how to print.

After the print was complete, another volunteer was asked to load the job into the plotter. Lining up the machine to cut and setting the new print in their pins were big points of emphasis. Loading the blade and navigating the plotter to print were the last two steps and the easiest. With the whole process done, the Wensco team did it one more time. This time they added extra cuts in the software to provide a ‘crack and peel’ backing. Rob went on to explain that first Gerber machine they made can still be found in shops today, fully functional.

With machines built like tanks and foil that provided great precision and printing abilities, Gerber had a lot to offer. The training day provided Wensco with a chance to get up close and personal with the products and learn the ins and outs of the Gerber product line.
